National Security, Federal Funding
America is embracing our growing energy independence like never before with renewables, coal and new discoveries of oil and gas reserves across the U.S. and Canada that fuel our economy and ensure our national security. As we continue to develop a diversity of these energy sources, the foundation of our abundant and affordable energy is fossil fuels. The City of Mobile and our Port play a critical role in energy independence in our nation and region as evidenced by our 2014 recognition as an Energy Transfer Port. Any drop in commodity tonnage and, in particular, energy commodities, jeopardizes Federal funding that maintains our channel, adversely impacts the Port, related industries and the City of Mobile, and potentially sends trade elsewhere.
